Moonshine Ultimate

Moonshine was created from Cake splitting. Cake was created in 2011 in Bowling Green by Heather and Matt Summers, the current coaches of the University of Kentucky’s women’s team. After the 2014 season, Cake split into two teams, so players could practice two times a week instead of two-day weekend practices. So, Moonshine was established in 2015 by Kevin and Jean Sims, Megan and Stephen Chan, and Heather and Matt Summers.

Moonshine’s initial and current goal is to continue the grow of ultimate in the Lexington area with a balance of competitive ultimate, excellent spirit, and fun. Moonshine has made it to regionals each of the past three seasons, and the team has improved its final standing each year. This past season, Moonshine came into regionals seeded fifteenth. After two hard losses, the team pulled together and one their last pool play game. This win placed them in a crossover game and gave them chance to play in the first-place bracket. After a hard-fought game, Moonshine lost 13-11. But it was only a few small mistakes that cost them the game and breaking seed my seven. This was a very sad, yet exciting game that Moonshine is planning to build off of next season.
