Spring 2019

Regionals

Joliet, IL : April 27-28, 2019 | Record: 1-4 | Tourney Champs: Michigan

Regionals weather always sucks, but this one might have landed a top 2 finish in worst conditions to play in after a healthy 2 inches of snowfall and highs of 40 degrees on Saturday. Dropping games against Grand Valley State and Notre Dame to start the tournament, KULT found themselves in a very familiar situation Sunday morning after the last round of Saturday was postponed. Kentucky vs Purdue in the game to make bracket at regionals. A scripted re-write from a year prior down to the universe point. After clawing back from being down 3 at half, KULT forced a universe point situation, but unfortunately fell just shy of top 8 at regionals to Purdue yet again. After the heartbreaking loss, KULT finished up winning 1 of their last 2 games and securing a 10th place finish at regionals.

Sectionals

Indianapolis, IN : April 13-14, 2019 | Record: 4-3 | Tourney Champs: Notre Dame

KULT dropped the first two games at sectionals against the tougher Purdue and Notre Dame teams after losing star player, Zach Stambaugh, to a dislocated shoulder in the first game, but rallied back to hold off Ball State and grab a statement win against Indiana in pool play after Nate Maddux sealed the game with a sky in the endzone. Coming out Sunday morning in freezing rain conditions, KULT was able to grab an easy victory against USI. After a disappointing loss to Indiana in the bracket, KULT found themselves fighting for the final spot to go to regionals against Ball State. All tied at 7-7, Ball State scores a goal with 1 second left before cap goes off. Having to hold to force universe point with no time left in a win or season-over scenario, KULT leaned heavily on their seniors and methodically moved the disc with no turnovers to make it 8-8. In the wildest finish in KULT sectionals history, Kentucky breaks for the win on a D from Jake Carrico and a season-saving assist from Carrico to Daniel Poston to take 4th place and a bid to Regionals for the 4th consecutive year.

CWRUL

Indianapolis, IN : March 23-24, 2019 | Record: 2-5 | Tourney Champs: Notre Dame

After a 2 month sanctioned tournament hiatus, KULT was back at it in Columbus for a late season throw-down. Another power pool appearance from KULT was exciting on paper, but frustrating on the field. Losing out on Saturday for the second straight tournament is never fun, but heads were held high knowing KULT was still in the top 8 of the 27 team tournament. Kentucky slid past Dayton in a universe point win in pre-quarters but fell to inter-section rival Purdue in the quarterfinals. Kentucky ended up taking 7th place after a win against Pittsburgh (B), which is pretty solid in a 27 team field, but a losing record is never fun.

TTown Throwdown

Tuscaloosa, AL : January 26-27, 2019 | Record: 4-3 | Tourney Champs: LSU

Kentucky Ultimate started their regular season off by Captain Jake Carrico throwing the first official pass of the season to LSU right on KULT's own goal-line. Folks, it can only get better from here. After being placed in a power pool at TTown, KULT failed to get a win against any of the top competition in the region, losing to LSU, Illinois, and UAH. However, Kentucky redeemed themselves against similarly skilled Georgia State with a statement win of 11-4. After some very questionable tournament directing, KULT failed to make the bracket despite being in a power pool and winning the crossover. This clerical error left KULT competing for the 9th place title on Sunday. This motivated KULT to win out and take 9th place with victories over Mississippi St. and UAB before topping Georgia State again in the chumpionship game. All in all, frustrating weekend, but wins are wins.
